If the mabl Trainer won't launch, doesn't record steps, or exhibits other unexpected behaviors, use the steps in this article to troubleshoot.
Update the Desktop App
To ensure the issue isn't a bug that was recently fixed, make sure that you're using the latest version of the mabl Desktop App.
- To check whether you're on the latest version of the app: Help > Check for updates
- To confirm your Desktop App version: mabl > About mabl
Clear local session data
If the Trainer opens but hangs on a loading screen, doesn't display your test steps, or won't start a session, try clearing local session data:
- Update the Desktop App as described above.
- Clear your local session data. Go to Help > Troubleshooting then select Clear session cache/storage and Reset app data.
- Relaunch the Trainer.
Local runs use the version of Chrome installed on your computer. An outdated Chrome version could prevent the Trainer from launching. Cloud runs use a Chrome version managed by mabl and aren't affected by your local version. Learn more in multibrowser support.
Check for a Chrome enterprise policy
If the Trainer launches but can't record or play back steps, a Chrome enterprise policy set by your organization may be blocking it. In a Chrome window, visit chrome://policy and look for DeveloperToolsAvailability. If this policy is set to 0, the Trainer can't record or play back steps. Ask your IT team to set it to 1.
Because this policy is managed centrally, you'll likely need your IT or networking team to change it.
Check your browser path
If you've set a custom browser path, an incorrect or outdated path can stop the Trainer from launching or opening a test. From the menu bar, go to Edit > Preferences > Browser to check your browser path. Clear the field to return to the default Chrome path.
Advanced troubleshooting
If the Trainer still isn't working as expected after attempting the troubleshooting steps above, your environment may have strict security policies or app setups that require custom configuration. Don't troubleshoot these settings on your own. Work with the mabl support team to identify and troubleshoot with advanced browser overrides.
