Internet Explorer sunset plan

Frequently asked questions

Mabl is committed to providing a Unified experience across browsers with the latest technology that is representative of the end-user experience. Considering Microsoft's decision to end support for Internet Explorer 11 for certain versions of Windows 10, along with the technical limitations that IE brings to the Unified testing experience, we decided to phase out our support for Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer entered the end-of-support phase on February 1, 2023 and will be formally retired on October 2, 2023.

Timeline for sunsetting the Internet Explorer support

  • October 14, 2022: Extended support; End-of-sale
  • February 1, 2023: End-of-support
  • October 2, 2023: End-of-life

FAQs

What does it mean for Internet Explorer to be retired?
Once Internet Explorer is retired, it will no longer be available for test execution in the mabl cloud.

Why is Internet Explorer being sunset?
As Microsoft has reduced support for IE 11, it has become increasingly difficult to address issues with tests running on IE and support new features and capabilities on this browser. Moreover, IE is not supported by the modern frameworks used by the Unified Runner.

When will IE be fully sunset?
We will fully retire Internet Explorer on October 2nd, 2023.

Can I still run tests on Internet Explorer?
Up until the end-of-life date, Internet Explorer remains available for all accounts that purchased IE support before October 14, 2022 (the end-of-sale date) until October 2nd, 2023 (the end-of-life date). However, there are some newer features we do not support for Internet Explorer, including the Unified Runner.

What areas of testing does this affect?
This only impacts runs in the cloud on Internet Explorer. Trainer replay and local test runs use Chrome and will not change.

Does mabl support IE mode in Edge?
Mabl does not support IE mode in Edge at this time. If this functionality is important to your team, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or let us know in the mabl Product portal.

What happens if I don't migrate my tests from Internet Explorer by the sunset date?
Any plans that continue to use Internet Explorer after the sunset date will have this option removed and no test runs will be executed on that browser.
