mabl is committed to providing a Unified experience across browsers with the latest technology that is representative of the end-user experience. Considering Microsoft's decision to end support for Internet Explorer 11 for certain versions of Windows 10, along with the technical limitations that IE brings to the Unified testing experience, we decided to phase out our support for Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer entered the end-of-support phase on February 1, 2023 and was formally retired on October 2, 2023.
Timeline for sunsetting the Internet Explorer support
- October 14, 2022: Extended support; End-of-sale
- February 1, 2023: End-of-support
- October 2, 2023: End-of-life
Extended support
During the extended support phase, the existing functionality of Internet Explorer is maintained. However, new features or enhancements are unlikely to be available. Bugs reported for Internet Explorer are addressed on a case-by-case basis.
End-of-support
During the end-of-support phase, no further changes are made to Internet Explorer in mabl. This includes non-critical security updates, non-security updates, and bug fixes. Bugs reports for Internet Explorer are only considered if they are impacting testing on other browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox).
End-of-life
During the end-of-life stage, Internet Explorer is formally retired.
FAQs
What does it mean for Internet Explorer to be retired?
Once Internet Explorer is retired, it will no longer be available for test execution in the mabl cloud.
Why was Internet Explorer sunset?
As Microsoft has reduced support for IE 11, it became increasingly difficult to address issues with tests running on IE and support new features and capabilities on this browser. Moreover, IE is not supported by the modern frameworks used by the Unified Runner.
When was IE fully sunset?
We fully retired Internet Explorer on October 2nd, 2023.
What areas of testing does this affect?
This only impacts runs in the cloud on Internet Explorer. Trainer replay and local test runs use Chrome and will not change.
Does mabl support IE mode in Edge?
mabl does not support IE mode in Edge at this time. If this functionality is important to your team, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or let us know in the mabl Product portal.
What happens if I don't migrate my tests from Internet Explorer by the sunset date?
No tests will be executed on Internet Explorer on or after October 2, 2023. If a plan's browser configuration used Internet Explorer, the Internet Explorer option was removed.
